But New York State is unique in that it has not one, but\u00a0<em>two separate<\/em> film incentive programs: a\u00a0<strong>Production<\/strong>\u00a0tax credit program, and a\u00a0<strong>Post Production<\/strong>\u00a0tax credit program.<\/p>\n<p>Like most such programs, they come with a clear set of requirements for placing acknowledgement language and logos in your end credits.<\/p>\n<p>Get these simple requirements wrong, and you could end up costing your production hundreds of thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n<h2>Different programs, different end credits language<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to understand that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NY State&#8217;s two separate programs have different set of requirements for your end credits; and<\/li>\n<li>the requirements are written into the state law that regulates the programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Because these are based on state legislation, there can&#8217;t be any exceptions. So it&#8217;s critical that you get it right the first time.<\/p>\n<h2>What\u2019s at stake?<\/h2>\n<p>Simple:\u00a0if you get these requirements wrong in your end credits, it could jeopardize getting your tax credit.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re not talking about pocket change. For example, on a film with a $500,000 budget, 70% of costs could be eligible for the tax credit of 30%.\u00a0In other words,\u00a0the tax credit at stake could be over $100,000.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a very expensive typo.<\/p>\n<h2>How can I get it right?<\/h2>\n<p>It&#8217;s easy enough\u00a0to avoid\u00a0using the\u00a0wrong<em>\u00a0<\/em>language:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Always reach out directly to your film office. They will provide the exact logo and the exact language for your specific production.<\/li>\n<li>Follow their instructions to the letter.<\/li>\n<li>Never\u00a0copy and paste the language from a previous job.
